JAMIE F. DEREMIAH

MEET

Jamie was born and raised in the Beaverdale neighborhood of Des Moines, Iowa. After graduating from Dowling Catholic High School in 2001, he attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and in 2005, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in Philosophy and History. In 2008, Jamie graduated from Drake University Law School and was admitted to the Iowa bar. During law school, Jamie clerked for both a general practice law firm and a national healthcare law firm, both of which provided him with rich experience in both the corporate legal world and many aspects of civil litigation. Following graduation from Drake Law School, Jamie was hired as an associate at the healthcare law firm.

In October of 2009, Jamie made the decision to switch from the corporate world to a general practice.

Since 2011, Jamie has specialized in criminal defense.  Jamie has successfully negotiated beneficial outcomes for countless clients charged with a wide array of crimes, from OWI to first degree murder. But if there isn’t an agreement to be had, Jamie is at home in the courtroom.

Jamie has criminal jury trial experience in many different types of cases including murder and attempted murder, domestic violence assault, felony theft, and even simple misdemeanor cases.

Attorney at Law

Jamie has criminal jury trial experience in many different types of cases, including murder and attempted murder, domestic violence assault, felony theft, and even simple misdemeanor cases.

Most recently, in October 2023, Jamie represented a client charged with two counts of first degree murder, one count of attempted murder, criminal gang participation, and willful injury in a nationally publicized case.  Following a two-week trial, the jury returned a not guilty on all counts verdict after five hours of deliberation.

Jamie has also tried non-jury cases, including a 2018 second degree murder trial which was held at the Drake Legal Clinic as a part of Drake Law School’s trial practicum. In that case, after two days of trial, the State agreed to drop the second degree murder charge and Jamie’s client pled to involuntary manslaughter and reckless discharge of a firearm causing serious injury.

Although criminal defense is his specialty, Jamie has also recovered hundreds of thousands of dollars on behalf of his clients in personal injury matters, including car accident injuries and contract disputes.

Jamie loves the courtroom and is passionate about defending his clients’ rights.

Jamie is licensed to practice in all state courts of Iowa, as well as the United States District Court for the Southern and Northern Districts of Iowa.
