Born with a natural flair for advocacy, Jamie began honing her legal skills early on. Even during her high school years, she demonstrated her passion and talent for the law by representing herself in her first court case. Facing a handicap parking ticket, Jamie fearlessly defended herself, ultimately emerging victorious. This early triumph ignited her determination to pursue a legal career.
Jamie received her undergraduate degree in Law, Politics, and Society from Drake University in 2011. Following graduation, Jamie received her Certificate of Paralegal Studies and worked as a paralegal at a personal injury firm. After gaining experience as a paralegal, Jamie decided she was ready to pursue her dream of becoming an attorney. During her time in law school, she demonstrated a passion for advocacy and a strong commitment to justice. While in law school, Jamie clerked for a local employment and civil rights law firm and was also a student attorney at the Drake University Criminal Defense Clinic. She earned her J.D. and a certificate in Litigation and Dispute Resolution from Drake University Law School in May 2017. Jamie started her legal career at a national personal injury firm, but realized her real passion was criminal defense and family law.
Jamie takes the time to listen to her client’s concerns, explain their legal options clearly, and develop strategies tailored to their unique needs and goals.
Jamie joined Flangan Law Group in 2020 and practices primarily in criminal defense, divorce, and child custody. Jamie has successfully represented clients in a wide range of criminal defense and family law cases. Her courtroom experience and strategic approach have led to numerous favorable outcomes for her clients. She is known for her thorough preparation, persuasive arguments, and relentless advocacy on behalf of her clients. Whether negotiating plea delas or litigating in court, Jamie is committed to securing the best possible result for each client.
During the very first criminal case that Jamie took on as an attorney, she was able to secure a plea deal for her client that reduced the charge from Operating While Intoxicated First Offense to Public Intoxication, a simple misdemeanor. In April of 2023, Jamie secured a favorable outcome for her criminal client at his jury trial. Prior to trial, the client was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing a Bodily Injury, a serious misdemeanor. After two days of trial, the jury returned a verdict finding Jamie’s client guilty of Domestic Abuse Assault. However, Jamie was able to successfully argue that the State failed to prove the parties were in a domestic relationship during her Motion for Judgement of Acquittal, and the judge agreed and found Jamie’s client guilty of Assault, a simple misdemeanor.
Jamie has also successfully tried several family law matters, including child custody, child support, and contempt matters. She understands the emotional challenges that accompany family law disputes and works diligently to help her clients navigate the legal process with confidence and peace of mind. Jamie takes the time to listen to her client’s concerns, explain their legal options clearly, and develop strategies tailored to their unique needs and goals.
Outside of her legal practice, Jamie enjoys spending time with her husband, Todd, whether it be riding the local bike trails, going to the movies, cooking, or taking their two golden retrievers, Ellie and Sophie, to the local dog park, Paws and Pints.
